Building Program

Lancaster City Schools / Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC)

About This Project

We assisted Lancaster City Schools in passing a (5) building, $88.7 Million bond levy in 2012. The successful outcome led to the construction of (5) new Elementary Schools for Lancaster City Schools using the Exceptional Needs Program. These schools included Gorsuch West Elementary School, Mt. Pleasant Elementary School, Tarhe Trails Elementary School, Medill Elementary School, and Tallmadge Elementary School.

Educational Planning with the staff of each school building was done in order to develop a facility that met the staff’s educational curriculum delivery model, met the school districts goal of equality throughout the district and created a sense of neighborhood identity. Future learning/21st Century Learning Design features were incorporated into each school to provide alternative means of learning. Some features included extended learning spaces in the academic pods adjacent to academic classrooms, flexible learning spaces and opportunities for team teaching.

We also assisted the District with finding new sites to replace the existing grade 6-8 Jr. High Schools. After the passage of a levy campaign, the District and the OFCC proceeded with the construction of (2) new 105,863 SF Jr. High Schools: Thomas Ewing and General Sherman. The two buildings are prototypes and are LEED Silver Registered.
