Completed Fetter-Hood Barn
Interior of Fetter-Hood Barn
Originally constructed in the 1840s by Thomas Fetter, this Pennsylvania German style barn was donated to the Fairfield County Park District in 2006, when it was dismantled and moved to Smeck Park.
The existing sandstone foundation was reinstalled that year but the project came to a halt due to budgets reasons.
After 15 years, the project received adequate funding for the rebuild. Because of current Ohio Building Codes and the Park District’s desire for the general public to use the facility, a change of use was required to be approved by the State of Ohio.
The change of use permit from agriculture to assembly, along with the structural revisions to the existing foundations and framing systems required an approval from the State Board of Building Appeals. We were granted this in May 2020.
In keeping with the historic features of the original barn, this unique 5,000 SF double forebay barn will become the new hub for Smeck Park and will be home to indoor exhibits, park programs and reservable public meeting space.
