About This Project

This project involved the addition of a 3,000 SF maintenance facility onto an existing 2,400 SF heavy timber framed barn from the early 1900s.

The original barn structure had to be initially assessed to determine if it indeed could be added onto in regard to it framing members as the Park District had required.

A change of use from agriculture to non-separated business and storage was required by code. Drawing inspiration from the original red barn and white silo structures, the addition took on the original barn appearance with a gable end roof, connected by an outdoor breezeway and office corridor area.

The building featured painted wood cedar siding with 30-year dimensional asphalt shingles. Site utilities included an on site bio-peat sanitation system with a private well for water service.
