McKay Lodge and Shelter Renovations
Preservation Parks of Delaware County
About This Project
This project involved the renovation of an existing 1,860 square foot one story timber framed residence surrounded by several acres of woods to be used as a nature center and public restroom facility for Shale Hollow Park. The building underwent a complete interior renovation including new ADA men’s and women’s restrooms, nature room/entry area, a large multi-purpose room to be used as a nature center and designed for use as a meeting hall, a warming kitchen, mechanical room and storage closet. The electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems all underwent extensive upgrades as well. The building’s exterior was enhanced with new entry doors, all new wood deck/overlook, a new standing seam metal roof system, a new heavy timber entry canopy structure and additional stone work. Site drainage and the building’s moisture infiltration issues were solved with additional site drainage, grading and enhanced roof and eave air flow.
