Statewide Cabin Improvements Fiscal Year 21-22
Ohio Department of Natural Resources / Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC)
About This Project
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources decided to renovate deteriorated cabins at several Ohio state parks. These cabins were originally constructed between 1940 and 1990. While some cabins had since been renovated, many are original and needed to be upgraded. Schorr Architects has been involved in five project phases (and starting the 6th phase in June 2025):
Fiscal Year 21-22
Our team completed the full renovation of (11) cabins at Buck Creek State Park, including kitchenette and bathroom remodels, finish upgrades, furniture, fixtures, and equipment updates, window replacements, exterior and interior painting, and mechanical system upgrades. Renovations at (7) cabins at Lake Hope State Park include exterior siding and foundations work, rescue window openings enlargements, interior flooring installation, limited kitchen and bathroom cabinet and fixture replacement, HVAC replacement, and limited plumbing and electrical work at two-bedroom cabins. Renovations to (17) standard two-bedroom cabins at Salt Fork State Park included: exterior structural foundation repair, cabin perimeter erosion mitigation, and structural framing repairs at existing exterior, partially enclosed porch and hot tubs.
One of the unique situations our team managed was the existing hot tubs on porches at Salt Fork’s (17) cabins. This included repair of structural joists and updated finishes in the exterior porches, including replacing windows, decking, and covering piping in small white enclosures popularly known as “doghouses”.
