As part of the 2014 Capital Improvements Bill for ODNR, park restroom facilities were identified as an area in need of improvements. Several topics were discussed as areas of concern and/or needing to be improved within the proposed facilities. Such topics included the following:

  • Restrooms are an important function in the park serving the public

  • Flush type restrooms are preferred over vault/pit types

  • Restroom locations to be provided where they are most needed

  • Restrooms need to be clean, safe and accessible to all visitors

  • Restrooms should be designed for a minimum 25 year life cycle cost

  • Restroom routine maintenance is crucial for long term occupancy

The initial phase 1 of the Statewide Restrooms project included the construction of three pre-cast concrete buildings as manufactured by the CXT, LB Foster Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the following state parks:

  • Lake Hope State Park

  • Salt Fork State Park

  • Dillon State Park

Drip Irrigation waste sanitation systems were installed at two of the facilities in order to accommodate the desire for flush type restrooms.
