Conversion of Maintenance Facility to Multi-Use Athletic Facility

Lancaster City Schools

About This Project

Our master plan for Lancaster City Schools included the creation of a new Training Building and Referee’s Locker Room adjacent to the new football stadium, relocation of their existing weight room to the new High School and a new Maintenance Building and Bus Garage.

The plan made their existing Maintenance Building available for a new 22,910 sf indoor athletic practice facility, that we called the Lancaster Athletic Building (The LAB). The program called for the removal of several of the overhead doors and the creation of large clerestory windows for natural daylighting. Demolition of several small storerooms and the renovation of the existing restroom and mechanical room. The result is a new state-of-the-art practice facility with a golf simulator, a meeting room for film study, an intimate weight training area for small teams, a 60-meter sprint track with 3 lanes and, 12,000 sf indoor field that can be used by a number of different sports or the Marching Band in case of inclement weather. The LAB will also contain large storage areas for football, the marching band, and a general sports storage area, as well as industrial laundry facilities for team uniforms.

Construction is planned to begin on The LAB in early 2026.
